Our Journey

A key highlight of our journey has been our successful partnership with the
NHS. Through collaborative efforts, we have successfully addressed health
inequalities and improved access to healthcare services for underserved
communities. Our flagship "Vaccine Ambassador Project" exemplifies this
success, demonstrating a significant increase in vaccine uptake within hard-to-reach populations. Also, our work with Kings College London on raising awareness of the risk factors for people of Afro-Caribbean descent to Kidney disease has been another testament to our expertise and commitment to ensuring the health and well-being of people from deprived communities. Unsurprisingly, our vaccine ambassador project for the NHS Kent and Medway ICB  was shortlisted for the HSJ Awards.

In response to our past successes and the need for a specialised training program aligned with the UK Government's Vaccination Strategy launched in December 2023, we have developed the "Effective Communication for Vaccine Promotion in Every Community Workshop." This program is designed to equip health professionals and community champions with the knowledge and skills necessary to educate underserved communities about vaccinations.

Led by highly qualified health professionals with extensive NHS experience, the workshop teaches participants how to effectively communicate critical information, address vaccine hesitancy, and foster trust within their communities.

Our commitment to excellence, innovation, and community impact drives us to continuously improve our services and provide tailored solutions that meet our partners' and communities' evolving needs.

SUMMARISED into THREE words | Hidden-CKD

https://www.hiddenckd.co.uk – Get screened, take part in research or become a peer educator ––––––––––––––––––– Watch as Project Lead, Roseline Agyekum, describes the project in just three words! –––––––––––––––––––– More info on #kidneys and #kidneydisease : – Kidneys filter around 180 litres of blood every day, control the production of red blood cells and release hormones that regulate your blood pressure. Kidneys also produce urine, by removing waste products from the body. – Kidneys help keep your bones strong and healthy by helping produce an active form of vitamin D. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) means that your kidneys do not work as well as they should. They can’t remove waste products from your body. – Damage to the kidney’s filter system can also allow blood and protein to leak into the urine. This is not always visible but can be found with a urine test. The term ‘chronic’ means that it is a long-term condition. It does not necessarily mean your kidney damage is severe as many cases of CKD are mild and can be managed with help from your GP and without hospital involvement. – Anyone could get kidney disease. Around 3 million people in the UK have Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). Uncontrolled diabetes and high blood pressure are the biggest causes of CKD. Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities are five times more likely to develop CKD than other groups. – Right now, over 68,000 people in the UK are being treated for kidney failure (also known as stage 5 CKD, where kidney function is less than 15%). There are 40-45,000 premature deaths in the UK every year due to CKD (that's enough people to fill the Royal Albert Hall nine times over). – Most people are diagnosed by a blood and urine test. You may have these tests as part of a routine check-up or because you are at risk of developing CKD
